   We returned from a wonderful 12 days in Tanzania at the end of February. The trip included 4 days at Mahale in a nature reserve on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. We spent 3 days in the hills above our luxurious encampment hiking among the chimpanzees. One of our travelers commented that seeing the chimps in the wild was like observing "a parallel universe." They have their moral system, political intrigue, they use tools. Truly our cousins.
   Mahale was followed by 4 days on the Serengeti during the Great Migration of gnu or wildebeests. It's really impossible to describe the magnitude of this event. It's like spring fling on the Serengeti. There is an abundance of food for everyone thanks to the rains and the gnu. Tanzania and Kenya are the last places on earth that have this kind of migration. We were so blessed to be able to be there.
